I got a larger but slim enveloped from NAFA yesterday in the mail. I thought it was the newsletter magazine thingy we get so I was surprised when I opened it up and it was a "top lot" certificate, my first one!! I only sold 2 coon in the March sale but one I guess was the in the best lot for western semi-heavy. Sort of ironic because most of my coon are Western NC and Western Northern and only a couple a year are Western Semi Heavy. It makes me smile that coon and I did a good job of being an excellent pelt but I'll party a bit more when I get one for a Western Northern over $40 and dancing in the streets if I got one of trappingtime's extra pale heavy western coyotes that brings me an Uncle Ben or more :--)

I didn't pay any attention to the sale this year since I knew it was going to be bad. When the check came I saw just how bad it was. Then yesterday in the mail came a Top Lot certificate for semi heavy red fox, yeehaw. Two years ago that fox would have brought what all my furs did this year combined

I sell my fur to a Country buyer. I am not familiar with the NAFA thing. What does "Top Lot" mean?

Way to go PC! Like everyone else said, just show your top lot award and you'll get your free hat. You should get a pin as well.

Roaddawg, welcome to the site. I am sure you will like WAT as everyone here is extremely friendly and helpful. Putting your location in your profile will help the guys better understand your environment and trapping techniques.

To answer your question, Top Lot awards are given to trappers who send their hides to the Canadian auction houses (NAFA and FHA). They are awarded when the hide Brings the highest price for that particular species and section of fur. Some trappers receive many awards each season and some can go years without receiving one. They are a marketing technique used by the auction houses to acknowledge the trappers. Hope this helps and again welcome.
