Opening day for rabbit, gray squirrel, and a whole host of game birds in the Pine Tree state. Really wet this morning, but I didn't miss the opener. Foliage is still kinda thick, but at least the wet ground made stalking the bushytails easier.

My grandfather's old single-shot .22 always gets the first hunt of the season (sentimental reasons), and I nailed two good-sized squirrels as they foraged on the ground. Spooked a huge doe walking through an oak grove, and a small buck on the otherside. It's going to be a good season if I keep seeing deer...

Gotta love small game season. I was out last week for squirrels and grouse.

I had the woods to myself today. No one hunts squirrels up here (except me it seems) and the rain kept most of the bird hunters home. Raccoon, skunk, and oppossum start soon too. Never have met a skunk/pussom hunter though. Rabbits will pick up after deer season.

Usually the only rabbit hunting I do happens in my backyard. :)
