My guy with the skunk problem called and said that there was a coon in one of the traps today. I picked it up after work and took it home. I figured I would do a little training with the ol beagle mutt. I had the dog in the jeep and opened the live trap behind the garage. That coon took off like a rocket , directly to the neighbors. I let the dog out and she got right on it. She ran it to the neighbors and treed it next to the kids playhouse. 10,000 acres of woods and they have to go there. I went around to the front and knocked to see if anyone was home ( I had just talked to him). All the cars were gone and no one was home. Dog and I went back around to the back and the coon was gone! Now you would think that any sef respecting beagle mixed mut would be able get on that trail and tree that coon again. We ran around for half an hour and never found that nice prime fur. We had fun anyways but next time I will make sure the coon is pointed in a better direction.

Hey Boom, how are you doing your tally. Is it calandar year or trapping season? I figure I need start my big bragging list. Do I count the coon since he got away or do I have start an escapee count. and that really hurts since I was a Corrections Officer in Michigan for ten years.

I go by the season, and I think most everyone else does too. I'd say ya count the coon. You had it caught, then ya let it go yourself (even though the recapture part didn't quite work out as planned  ).

No, I didn't train the dogs than goodness. But I did have five guys drive right by me, in a pick up truck they took from a maintenance man, and watched em as they crashed through the gates. Do you think there is pattern here? :) NH

 A friend of mine worked in one of the towers at Texas Dept of Corrections in the 60s until he shot a hole through the door with the 30-30. He seems to have been playing as the Rifleman! They moved him to the back "yard" where the delivery trucks came in and out of....he needed a large truck moved one day and no inmates were around...he managed to crash through the gates before he got stopped. He was then moved inside away from guns and gates.
