We are just over two weeks into the MN trapping season and my count so far is

7 or 8 skunks....they love me, I hate them.
2 coyotes both from the same set
4 fox, 2 reds 2 greys
1 timber wolf, released
1 massive boar coon

I just acquired another farm to trap. That puts me at 4 private locations on my route, all on good travel ways.

Got a couple more yotes. Finally had happen what I knew would happen sooner or later....dead yote in a trap, killed by a timber that was caught in a post set 30 yds away. I thought the yote would still be good but the wolf tore him up bad on one side

Also released a large bobcat a few days ago. Season isn't for 3 more weeks.

The fox are few and far between the last couple weeks. Oh yeah, also had some dingbat deer hunter steal a 450. He must be one of those ppl that prides himself on sportsmanship

Your off to a good start Al. How is the fur looking on those fox? I'm still playing with beaver. Done nothing for a week but went to set more traps out for beaver on my sons line as he is short of his quota. Hopefully tomorrows check will fill him up. Total beaver so far is 53. The weather is up and down here so might be another week or 2 till i set for land animals. Seen 2 more otter today, seems to be lots this year. To bad the prices are down to trap a whole bunch.

Thank you guys :D

Amak, I never quit the steel, just cut back the tech. Picked up four cats last season, two over forty pounds, one week apart. I was sweating my rear off after the half mile back to the truck with this one. That bed is four feet wide. :o

I pretty much catch everything on one kind of set now, except when I'm just farting around to see what happens. This season I've been trying to use more post sets to catch fox and yotes, I've ended up with two wolves!
I really enjoy releasing them

Today's yote.
Pretty skinny, I think I caught her ma last week and she hasn't been eating so good

Big cat Al, good going. Still doing the beaver thing here. Was out helping another trapper today and when I got home after dark and walked into the garage there was a surprise from my nephew.

19 more flat tails from this weekend. I didn't know if I should be happy or cry. Not looking forward to tomorrow. That makes 72 now, 13 more will be 100% qouta for both lines.

You do any beaver this year Al?

Just a couple nuisance jobs so far. No point in it at the prices right now. I only need em for bait, and frankly I have been using venny scraps from the last couple butchered deer. I did a little rat trapping but that's all pulled. Really just focusing on yotes this year since there are so many around.

Sounds like you are still slaying lots of flat tails though!

" I was sweating my rear off after the half mile back to the truck."

Sometimes it is a long way back to the truck. A fellow was trapping beaver, near Aspen, Colorado back in the seventies. He caught one and said it was the longest fifty yards he had ever carried anything. Weight of that flat tail, on a scale at the local feed store, was 86 pounds. Carried a couple beaver up out of a canyon, once. Started taking the skinning knives with me after that.

Rem I have thought that many times. Now I only trap beavs close to the road/trail. Right now I'm bummin' cuz I have no tail essence. Didn't get any made last summer, next summer I'm making a gallon of the stuff! I love that lure!
