Post subject:  raising ringneck pheasants

Hello everyone. I'm getting ready to order 250 ringneck pheasant chicks to raise to eat. Anyone ever raised them? I would appreciate any and all advice you can give. We used to raise chickens years ago but it's been a long time, and I'm sure raising pheasants is different. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry Kevan, Not too sure about this, I did work on a Shetland pony ranch while in high school and they raised quite a few phesants, but I wasn't involved in that production. If I remember correctly, they had a set up like old brooder houses. They may have had them in raised areas...I just don't remember. I did have a friend that raised a huge amount of quail and he had them in raised pens.

Doc, I know this is waaayy late. How'd the pheasants turn out? I know the big problem with the ones I've helped with is space and cannibalism.

My dad raised about 500 a year for awhile until he got sick of the fox and hawks getting in the pen. So I would say the most important thing is to watch for any whole or entrance for predators. Other than that from what i remember, auto water bowls and feeders were nice.

Because of this we have a lot of fox pelts on the wall :D
