I'm thinking about purchasing land in Canada. Is it legal for a US citizen to own land and to trap and hunt on the property as long as I buy the proper tags and permits?

tsniper88, it is not illegal for you to own land here, but to trap will be another matter. Where abouts are you thinking on buying land to trap on? First off you have to be a resident of Canada for 6 months. Secondly you will have to take a trappers educational work shop which is about 40 hours and pass.To sum it up short for you, your chances of trapping up here are next to 0

You might have to take a trappers course? I'm not sure if you own the land you need a license , but need a license and permission to trap on private land from the landowner.
On crown land the trapping rights are usually given to native trappers.
