Hi all,

My mother in law has a problem with coyotes. They have 2 acres and the coyotes have demolished their chickens in broad daylight when she turned a corner.

She is worried about the grand kids and wants to put an end to the problem.

What are her options?
Electric fences are pretty much out because of the grandkids. She is open to trapping, but not sure what the laws are (oh and the coyotes already ate all the live bait ;)). Shooting is antoher option for her, but she doesn't know what shooting laws are in residential (all lots are 2 acres or so).

They called someone about it and the response was that unless they had bitten someone they would not do anything.

Can anyone help out on this with some advice?

I really don't want to do anything illegal, but it has become a real problem for safety. These things don't seem at all frightened of humans.

Welcome to WAT. I would strongly suggest that the very first thing you do is learn what your state laws are about hunting and trapping. Once you learn your state laws, then it will be fairly clear how you can handle the problem. The members of this forum are Law abiding citizens and do not condone violating the law for any reason. IF you cannot handle the problem yourself, hire an ADC trapper. Good Luck

call your fish and game department. They can direct you to the right people who can help or answer your questions. In my state there are also local laws to worry about. There are also specific rules and regs about what a home owner can and can't do regarding nuisance animals.
