Alright guys i finally did it i bought a .223 savage model 10 predator. It has a 22" 1 in 9" twist barrel. Any of you guys have any suggestions on an actual load to run through it. I am trying to avoid alot of pelt damage and targeting mainly fox. I was leaning towards a lower velocity 55 grain seirra either the spitzer or the fmjbt. I am trying to avoid the fmjbt if possible, but any advise from you all would be great. Thanks guys

I have shot foxes using my .223 with FMJ but it leaves too big a hole. I prefer a 22 mag for foxes if possible.

Last year I shot a fox with a V-Max 50 grain and blew an exit hole as big as my fist. The next two were shot with FMJ's, little hole in, little hole out. Much better. As you know, if you hit bone, there will be splatter. It's unually managable though.

I think 22s are enough power from the shot foxes I've seen

Thanks for breathing new life into this old post. Since my last reply, I have found that the fmj's that I was using were highly inaccurate with my gun. I missed a coyote at 125 yards so I went to the range to check my zero and found I was only getting about 18 inch groups with that PPU 55 grain FMJ. I switched to Fiocci with a 50 grain v-max and the M-4 Bushmaster with 16 inch barrel loved the round. Now hitting 3/4 inch groups at 100 and under 1.5 inch at 200. A week later I took a 35 lb coyote with a tiny exit hole from a frag. She dropped in her tracks. I will be using it on fox this fall. I will let you know how I fair with the smaller canines.
