Quick Question!

Post subject:  Quick Question!

Hey everyone! This season I didn't get much of a chance to set traps. Between college and work and trying to save gas money (and of course these wonderful fur prices), trapping wasn't too cost effective. But I have a buddy who has beavers dropping some pretty good sized trees along their driveway and I'd like to take care of them for him. They've dropped 3 or 4 trees about 30 feet from the creek and have chewed the bark off of several of the trees. They also have 5 or 6 slides in the immediate area going into the creek. My question is how should I go about trapping these suckers? I have 2 330's and a dozen 650's, and I can make drowning rods if needed. Do I need to get some lure for castor mounds? Any and all help is appreciated as my beaver trapping is limited to conibears. Thanks!

Set your 330s on the runs coming out of water where they are going to the feed. No need for scent there as they are using those runs to access the trees. You can put some bait sticks behind the trap this will also draw them in.

Do I need to worry about them simply avoiding my traps and using one of the other 3 or 4 unset runs?

If you can, set every run. You could try blocking off a run if you don't have enuf traps. Check for fresh sign at each run to see if they are using all of them.
