Do you remove old wax, dye and re-wax your traps every year?

Yes, you should re-dye and re-wax every year. IMO

If that becomes a pain, boil them to remove the wax and I mean boil them for an hour or better and then try some Full Metal Jacket. It's a cold dip. (It's becomes odorless after it's completely dry).

FMJ is basically an industrial grade floor wax and I've used it and caught fox, coyote and everything else.

For my trap when I use it, I dip them at least 3 times. Remember to out a nail or something between the jaws and then move it to another spot after 2 dips, that way the FMJ covers all the jaw.

It has been said that FMJ turns white in water. I have not found this to be true, but it will turn white after it's been applied and then you boil that trap. I think it's the heat that causes it to begin to lift from the metal of the trap.

I dyed and waxed my traps, the old fashioned way this year as I want to see if there is any noticeable difference in my catch.

I dye and wax all my traps I use every year. Some just get dye like body grips.

wannab, I see no reason for us to wax our traps down here. We do not use any sort of antifreeze.
