We caught this in a Duke #3 set in about 2" of water on a drowner baited with 2 shaved sticks stuck in the mud with a little castor lure rubbed on the sticks. We had the trap set all week as just a "blind set" on a slide/run on the creek bank, with no luck. So last night we baited it and had him this morning. Another morning of smiles. Still trying for our first double animal morning though!

Congrats!! Thats awesome your son and you can spend that time together. Those times will be memories he'll cherish a lifetime. Thats quality time! Are you going to tan/mount the beaver? Thats some good eating too. Or it'll make good bait also. Trust me beaver roasts or burger is a lot tastier then the best beef. I even make jerky from our extra beaver burger.

Congrats on the flat tail! It's very refreshing to hear the complete excitement and passion in your postings! Nothing else like it is there? The memories and bond you are building now will last a lifetime. I can look back upon my experiances with my boys and its sad to realize that there is a very short time in our lives that we get the chance to do things like trapping with our children. There are no do overs once its gone, good or bad. I will miss the time we have/had together very badly as they get on with their adult lives. But nothing could replace those precious times. You are doing the right thing.

I can still remember my very first beaver catch. They are such neat animals.

Backwoods is right......beaver is at the top of my list for furbearer meat, but also dead tied with bobcat. With both, the younger animals are better but let me say done up correctly both are as good as meat gets.....now my mouth is watering!

Congrats again!

Congrats on your beaver, your son looks very happy and I can see a hook in his mouth. Good to see trappers getting the younger ones involved. Keep at her.
