I do. Only catch a handful a year. Did not sell a single one at auction this year. Year before sold all of theM for close to a 5 dollar average. Year before that was under a buck average. So you never know, I just hate throwing critters in the ditch

I didn't sell a single one at the last auction either. Had 5 in the "top lot" which was the first one listed. I forget how many I sent, maybe 12, but the ones that made it to the top of the list were big silver males with heavy leather that were later catches caught in cat sets. 1 or 2 came from Amak and CMJ's line. Most generally, I'll go ahead and work them up. They (the boars) are not bad to skin and board up nicely and if they help offset the gas cost over the season that's better yet. The smalls, blacks and females don't find high prices as a rule, so I turn em loose in one fashion or another. I had a top lot grinner last year that brought 10 bucks. I usually look for a 5-6 buck avg if I go on and send up lesser grinners. Some will bring a buck or 2, some 7.50. Do em up on a fox board and send em up to the show. Every cent counts.

I think grinners tend to rob pheasant nests and eat the eggs so they all get a one-way ticket to possum Valhalla. Northern SD doesn't have to deal with the grinner problem but I don't live there. Mohawk, nice tip about females getting docked for the pouch. I'll keep that in mind this season...

Thanks for the INFO. I thank I'll save them this coming year just to see. We don't get much for our fur in SE TX. . Coon $2 & 5, bobcat large $45 last year. So I just might get a $05 for the possum HAHA.

Mohawk, do they give out a top lot cert for grinners?

They do, I got one last year, sold for $10
Bear in mind, not a single grinner of mine sold this last auction so they may not be worth hanging onto, although they'll stay in storage until they do sell I guess.
NPC, I'm only assuming that they dock for the pouch, or at least the amount of leather I cut out removing it. I leave a L of an inspection window on a female. Not only that, you dang near have to be a surgeon to flesh around the pouch to prevent tearing from starting. Once it starts it's hard to complete the fleshing job without it going into good leather, at least for me.

Another portion for the females lower value is the thinner leather, and the much more pronounced hair root exposure on them as compared to boars. Coons are much the same but to a lesser extent.
