When getting ready for trapping fine tune your traps prior to dipping, dyeing and waxing or painting. On K9 or land sets, I have done all the modifications I want to do. I've got between 2-4 pounds pan tension and everything is perfect. Then I set the trap and using a small piece of wire I tie the dog in place so it can't fire. Then I dip or wax/dye as needed. Once done, I hang them out to dry and air preferably for 2/3 months. When trapping season opens I can go confident and quickly to where the sets are going to be. Make the type set I want, clip the wire holding down the dog, bed the trap, lure or bait if required and go. I don't have to bother with untangling trap chains, setting the trap etc. Sure saves time having the trap pre-set. And it won't hurt the coils if they are set for this time frame of 3 months prior to season opener. Just doing it my way. :)

You need to set your pan tension last, after the trap is "treated". Wax will affect pan tension (wax is a lubricant), as I assume would speed dip (I'm not a dipper).

Before dyeing/waxing I'll loosen my panbolts slightly to allow the wax to seep-in alittle better. Snug the bolt up, work it up & down (after waxing) 3-4 times, then set your tension.
