On my trapline I have good dirt/mud in 90 percent of the place and can nearly always stake a trap. So thats what I do. I normaly pass up places where I fear theft of catches and I don't particularly like the idea of ghaving to track down catches especially if they take off accross a field. I have used drags on occasion but very heavy ones that animals could barely move. What situations do you use drags or grapples in? About the only place I think I would use them is in rocky streams or perhaps frozen marshes around here.

I don't use them, mostly because I'm too lazy to go looking for my animals. I figure, if a person wants to risk getting seen screwing with my traps, they've already been trespassing on my land.

If you trap canines or 'coons up here in the Northwoods (i.e. lots of trees and underbrush) you can use grapples without many problems. I would still prefer to stake however.

Personnally I don't use them. There are locations in which they would be perfect, but due to time constraints it would be impossible for me to go tracking/chasing any critter that won't stay put where I want them to be .

Most of the time I stake traps down or wire the chain to a tree. There are times that I use drags on one or two sets in particular depending on the weather...sometimes the ground is just too soft and no trees nearby.
