What a difference 10 days can make. Back a few, I thought my open water season was probably going to be a bust with my FIL being pretty sick in his condition but as with anyone who has dealt with terminal illness, people can stabilze and plateau along that road downhill so he seems to be doing ok for now and so I'm going to try to trap for about a week. Still trying to do a crash course in getting ready (maybe different next year!!!). Had a sick kid today so I stayed home and we made 5 rat floats (never have made or used them before so this will be adventure). I figure I have to catch 8 rats with them this coming week just to break even with the materials I bought to make them. My digital camera has taken a crap so I'll take pixs with a disposable and then post them when I get them developed.

Going to try to get some land sets in tomorrow at my bro's place (about 5 acres). He has a wet spot in the corner bordering a large pasture. Up from the wet spot he had some strips of field corn and the coons have made super highways through the grass. We also found a coyote turd next to his shooting target stand so hoepfully tomorrow I'll lay out a couple of bucket sets, a few snares, and a couple of flat sets all in about a 50x50 meter area.

Sat. morning I'll starting getting rat sets out probably on public land. I sent off offerings on Monday to 4 private owners with rat huts in them to cut them for a share if they would let me trap but I haven't heard anything back. I'll try to contact one other guy tomorrow afternoon to see if he'll let me in his slough. Otherwise its public. We'll see if there's any competition out there. Our weekend is subposed to be nice, maybe too nice if a guy gets backed up skinning out rats (hope to maybe have that problem!). I'll start another post over on the trap line if I actually start to get fur coming in. 36 hours to go before I'm getting my waders on!!!!

"And God said, Let us make man in our image …and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, …the fowl of the air…and all the creatures that move along the ground.
Genesis 1:26
