Post subject:  WI Gun Deer Opening Weekend

Well, I didn't get a deer this weekend, the only thing I pulled up on was a doe that looked to weigh about 45 pounds... I let her go. I'll be out hunting off and on all week though.

The real neat thing this weekend was on Saturday afternoon. I was still-hunting a property and saw two foxes and a coyote. One of the foxes was trotting through the woods, scent marking stumps about every 30 yards or so. Real neat to observe. He got to within 15 feet of me before he noticed me! And he still didn't seem alarmed. Just went about his business. That was cool. :D

Post subject:  Shooting does

I don't have a problem with shooting does because the buck to doe ratio is so way out of balance in much of the state. I usually take one or two a year for the meat, my family loves venison. As far as bucks go, I usually let the smaller ones walk and wait for a Big Boy to show up... usually doesn't happen.

Going out again tomorrow too before turkey.

The wife's great uncle found the motherload of does and a pair of resident bucks using a wooded depression on his land. He promised myself and my father-in-law each a doe if we're at his door before 5am.

We'll see in the dark of morning if he's right. Season closes Saturday.
