At least for the North-Central states probably to China (where it seems most commodities end up nowadays). I don't know if there's a market such as this for southern deer skins or not (I know an old buyer around here won't buy any any further south than Missouri because the hides were too thin and had too many tick bites). These buyers up northeast of the Twin Cities give a much nicer price than around here. The most I ever got for a nice hide was an Abe Lincoln, usually $3. I've home tanned some of the smaller deer skins we've gotten over the years but that gets old without a decent market. And living in town, de-hairing a deer hide is a mess...

During the fur boom we bought'em for $4 across the board. There was some young men that for several years would skin your deer for free at the check station for the hide. I think when we were able to sell our deer hides we made .50? Most of the time we just gavem to our buyer as we just boughtem to keep our trappers and fur hunters happy. Ive tanned a bunch of'em. On occasion one of our fur sellers would ask me to tan their deer hair on as a trophy or rug. Handy for crafts and projects. Best rawhide ive ever made was from deer skin. Tandy leather company tanned and sold many hut i dont know if their still in business of any kind or anywhere.

Years ago we used to get $ 5 apiece for them. Don't know anyone around here who buys them now. I tan most of mine .
