To make a long story short, my 3 shotguns ended up spending 2 1/2 months out at the bro's place "barn" inside of military surplus cache tubes that I bought as stash pieces about 30 years ago. My Mini-14 (wrapped up in a blanket) and my 10-22 (inside a zipped up regular gun case) spent about a month or so out in the barn and had some surface rust on them when I retrieved them so I was wondering what the shotguns would look like being out longer but in different conditions.

I brought the tubes back on Sat. and checked them out. The tubes did their jobs, even without added drying agents included! No rust but the guns still haven't been cleaned in years so before this season really gets going, time to clean everything up good and do a little re-lubing. Here's the pixs of the situation. If anybody recognizes these numbers on the tubes and what their original duties were, it would be very interesting to know.

What you have are sonobuoy overpack cases. The 8W71 on the case indicates it was built to contain and protect an 8W71 sonobouy. The rest of the research is up to you!

Cool!! I've had them for around 30 years so they probably got declared surplus back in the early 80s maybe? I should try to find any pixs of them in their first duty.
