I posted some trap and trapping accoutrement photos in the trapping section. But here are some other photos I took.

You can see why it was called the Palace of the Prairie. Most other forts paled in comparrison.

This last one is similar to what's called a Sante Fe saddle. I had one very much like this once. they are surprisingly comfortable. Mine didn't even have the leather covering, just a space between the tree on both sides. and rigged with cinch, breast strap and stirrups and some fancy brass tack work on the back of the seat. I rode in mine 71 miles to a week long party once and back home. Sagle Id. to Ione Wa. Awesome. Not a rub at all.

This thing should be in my What the Heck Is That thread. It was on a window sill. I'll be sure to ask about it when I return.

Out of everything,,, what awed me the most, was what they used for insulation around the windows. Sheared sheep hide strips.

Just finished a book a couple months ago about the western trappers. They talked a lot about Bent's fort. Thanks MSG !!
