From one of the most amazing days fishing I have or ever will have fishing. We returned two weekends in a row and spanked monster steelhead galore! This is from the Manistique River before the paper mill in Manistique changed their dam structure. I have no idea what it is like now.
The river was packed with huge steelhead, most of em chompin'. The flowage was so strong, there was a reverse drift for our flies. We actually would cast downstream and our bottom hugging drift would travel upstream! On the third weekend, the lampreys arrived and it was all over (I dare someone to take one of those off your hook! LOL)

That is awesome! My sis and I leave our husbands with the kids and go fishing,LOL Our favorite fishing is to go for steelhead in the spring and fall! Then of course cooking and eating them! Glad you found it so enjoyable! It is a blast when they are biting!

wow! that is awesome...i keep telling my kid to meet a girl that steelheads and hunts whitetails lol i will be fishing the brule river in WI at the end of march. opener last year stunk, but year before was outstanding! between three of us we banked 42 fish. occationally someone will hook and land a nice lake-run brown. rarely someone catches one that reaches double digits. i'll only bonk a female if i need some spawn...otherwise i just cant bring myself to kill em

Yep, tell my boys to find a girl who fishes as well. My sis and I do get a lot of looks when we gear up and go fishing,LOL The first time I caught and filleted a fish for my husband he about fell over,LOL I highly recommend it as a skill all should know! ;) I don't get to fish as often as I'd like...bass fish mostly...quick easy fish to catch compared to many. Steelhead is the end all to be all here! It is a great day of fun when the croppie are biting too!

i live on a little lake up here in northern mn and crappie fishing through the ice was my favorite winter time activity...then i discovered trapping :) cant beat it here, the whole lake is surrounded by private land, so no public access! no pressure = lots of fish :))))

I love fishing but there is no fish alive that would get me to icefish,LOL Winter is were me and fishing part,LOL We have a reservoir were the boys and I hit in the spring for croppie. One of our best memories ever was a late night trip and hundreds of croppie...Like fishing in a barrel!LOL Croppie were the size of my foot too! Brought back enough to stock our pond. If ya ever have the chance to put in your own pond, go for it! Private fishing is the way to go and certainly a blast when you can walk out the front door and fish at any time! My daughter spent so much time around the pond one year she had bass taking worms from her hand! Then she'd get the local kids to wiggle their fingers and get bit! no kidding! and the use of bandaides on bloody fingers went through the roof....She has a wicked sense of humor,LOL
