Members of Girl Scout Troop 34 in Fairbanks, Alaska are trapping beavers as part of a state flood-management program. The young ladies received instruction on how to find the animals' dens, lay traps and skin the quarry. They plan to make fur hats and mittens and want to prepare the beaver meat to eat. At the same time, animal rights activists are trying to put trapping and the fur industry to rest in the City that Never Sleeps. During recent years, the Friends of Animals has crammed its anti-fur agenda down the throats of millions by placing its messages on Manhattan buses. This year, the group contracted a billboard at 44th and Broadway that will run from November 17-30. The ad, which shows the faces of 40 foxes with the headline, "One Fur Coat," will appear for 30 seconds, ten times per day between 10 AM and 7 PM. Anti-fur magazine ads are also being planned.
