The same group admitted to twin bombings at the offices of a biotechnology firm in August. The Revolutionary Cells Animal Liberation Brigade bombed Shaklee Corp., a business that markets consumer and beauty products. Shaklee does not test its products on animals, but it has links to Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS), a company that uses animals for research. Most animal rights groups oppose animal research. The most extreme supporters are violently targeting those who are even remotely affiliated with HLS. "We gave all of the customers the chance, the choice, to withdraw their business from HLS," read a message from the Animal Liberation Brigade. "Now you all will have to reap what you have sown. All customers and their families are considered legitimate targets." The Animal Liberation Brigade's message also mentions Sean Lance, president of the Chiron Corporation, the company targeted by the group during an August bombing. "Hey Sean Lance, and the rest of the Chiron team, how are you sleeping? You never know when your house, your car even, might go boom. Who knows, that new car in the parking lot may be packed with explosives. Or maybe it will be a shot in the dark." The Revolutionary Cells Animal Liberation Brigade promised to continue its assault until Shaklee complies with its demands and severs ties to HLS. The FBI is currently investigating the Shaklee and Chiron attacks. To counter animal and environmental terrorism, the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance is promoting The Animal and Ecological Terrorism Act to legislators in all 50 states. The bill, which was adopted by the American Legislative Exchange Council as an official model, recognizes animal and eco-terrorism as forms of domestic terrorism; increases penalties for persons participating in politically motivated acts of animal or eco-terrorism and creates specific penalties for those who encourage, assist or finance these acts of terrorism.
