Team of animal rights groups preparing anti-fur campaign (5/23/2003)

A coalition of animal rights groups is sponsoring a contest in which design students are being asked to create a $100,000 anti-fur advertising campaign.

The Fur Free Alliance, a coalition of more than 30 animal rights groups including the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), has promoted its anti-fur contest to students in North America and Europe. The students have been asked to design an advertising campaign that will include marketing materials, T-shirts, media spots, posters and more.

The North American contest winner created a poster that features a black image of a fox on a red coat hanger. It reads: "Fur. Hang it up for good."

In an effort to destroy the fur industry and end trapping, HSUS has also partnered with the Fur Free Alliance in launching a new anti-fur website. It targets youth and celebrities and bashes trapping.
