September 10 to vote in the state’s primary election to defeat
anti-hunting Senator Robert Smith.
Smith has spent his time in office catering to animal rights
groups. Congressman John Sununu is challenging Senator Smith in the
September Primary for a seat in the U.S. Senate. While Congressman Sununu is running on a pro-hunting
platform, Senator Smith has a history of voting in favor of legislation
supported by anti’s, including a federal ban on leghold traps. In fact, he has earned a 100 percent approval rating from the
Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest
animal rights group, and received the group’s Humane Lifetime
Achievement Award. In 1999, Senator Smith suggested that animal rights leaders
Wayne Pacelle, HSUS vice president, and Linda Nealon, a fundraiser and
activist who supports groups including People for the Ethical Treatment
of Animals and Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, join
efforts to create a political action committee (PAC).
They followed his advice and today Humane USA PAC endorses and
helps fund campaigns for political candidates who support the animal
rights agenda and lobbies for animal rights legislation.
In fact, it ranks Senator Smith as one of the Top 16 Senators who
consistently support animal protection measures and exhibit leadership
on animal issues. Sportsmen in every state should heed this call to action. Do your elected officials support the animal rights movement? Do they oppose pro-hunting legislation or support bans on trapping? Voting is an important tool – it allows your voice to be heard. Keep the sportsman’s voice strong. Research candidates running for office and vote to protect your outdoor heritage. CopyrightÓ U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance- www.ussportsmen.org
