time when anti-hunters are working to end hunting across the nation, the
Ohio legislature has passed a bill to permit Sunday hunting without
burdensome private land restrictions. The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance
led a coalition of Ohio sportsmen to expand the state's outdoor
heritage. House Bill
493, sponsored by Representative Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green), moved
through the Ohio House and Senate with virtually no opposition and now
goes to the governor for his signature. The bill removes all private
land restrictions during hunting seasons including the requirement that
landowners must have 20 or more acres to hunt on Sunday. It also removes
the restriction that non-owners only be allowed to hunt on property over
100-acres and registered in the state’s Hunter Access Program. The U.S.
Sportsmen’s Alliance worked with key legislators and led a coalition
of sportsmen’s organizations in a lobbying effort to remove these
private land restrictions for Sunday hunting. "Sportsmen
can now hunt on Sunday without dealing with unnecessary and burdensome
red tape," said Rob Sexton, U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance manager of
government affairs. "This bill would not have been successful
without the hard work and leadership of Representative Latta. His
willingness to shepherd this bill through the House of Representatives
and the Senate demonstrates his commitment to sportsmen and our outdoor
heritage." Sportsmen should thank the elected officials who supported this bill and pat themselves on the back for making their opinions known to their elected officials. CopyrightÓ U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance- www.ussportsmen.org
