I can't stand an empty forum. Gotta post something.

Maybe I should buy some land in Henry or Franklin County, or maybe a little place to call my own just outside Roanoke and commute to the woods. I have kin down that way.

Hey, that means I could be like Lil Bit and have two locations on my profile, right?

I don't normally...too busy trapping in Maine.

I did do some hunting a few years back outside of Roanoke with my wife's family. There's some good spots in those hills though. I'm sure I'd manage to catch coon, skunk, and possums easily enough down there if I moved that way.

Coons for sure, but we have plenty of fox and coyotes down here to. Ever head back this way, look me up. I can probably put you on some good hunting.

Unless it's a special trip I'm normally down there in late winter or early spring. I'll write you if it happens.

Serious question, believe it or not, why would a coyote poop on a dirt hole set?

I've read about it in magazines and trapping books, but seen it myself.

Could be a territory thing, like urine, or maybe that's his idea of laughing at your attempts to catch him...who knows. Some trappers use feces like they use urine at their sets to add to the realism of it.

Yup, still there.

I started working for the city, and in a canal that runs through downtown there are two families of wood ducks...so now I have the hunting itch too!

Hey firecheif and MEtrapper, I have two daughters who live in Virginia, one is futhur SW than Halifax...Blacksburg. She attends VT, she is a 3rd year CORPS member. The other was living at Strasburg which is up north on I-81. But she has moved to Winchester now where their Mom lives. I must admit that Y'all have some pretty country in VA and the animals I have seen are very nice. The girls grandparents on their Mom's side were both raised over in W VA. I think trapping and hunting would be great in both of these states. You guys need to post some pictures of your game from both VA and ME.

I should have included this old photo with the last entry. Here are those two daughters several years ago at our camp in southeast Texas. They are now grown and gone! Oh but what memories I have.

There sure is some pretty country in VA, but nothing could ever take over Maine’s place in my heart for hunting and trapping.

Texas has some nice landscapes too, and no one ever complained about hunting in Texas. Plus you guys have those alligator gar down there…don’t ask me why, but I’d jump at the chance to hook something like that!

Good seeing you back on the Forum...I have seen several of your posts but had started to wonder if you'd vanished like so many others seem to do from time to time. I think Virginia is a beautiful state and will be visiting in 3 weeks with a two daughters who now live there. I am actually suppose to meet with one of our West VA trappers while over there. He lives just over the pike when I get to Harrisburg VA. I have a friend here in town that is originally from Maine and she still visits on a regular basis. Texas does have pretty liberal outdoor policies....there are alligator gars in the local rivers, some folks are into getting them with bows and arrows. Some folks say everything in Texas is BIGGER.....but I say it is mostly the STORIES. Some of the guys have been posting some mighty fine fur and critter pictures that they got from their traplines. Welcome back......

I hope I’m back for a while.

The next Time I’ll be down in VA is the last half of May. I have a Corgi pup to deliver down there to my wife’s grandfather. Hopefully I’ll get my turkey before I have to drive down, but it’ll be nice to visit for a bit anyway.
