It is a drop spindle. Used to spin wool into yarn without a cumbersome spinning wheel, drop spindles were used in many places around the world before the advent of industrial fiber processing machines.

If you have ever worked with 500 rams in one day you would have heard them referred to as much worse. :wink: 25,000 ewes plus their lambs wasn't much fun either. :roll: I had to ride along the irrigation canal twice a day to find the sheep that couldn't get back up the bank from getting a drink. Fighting to get a water soaked, weak sheep up them banks was a work out many times over. :evil:
