Anyone want to take a guess? It is three foot long with a metal plate on top and bottom. A removable support sets on the bottom plate.

The thing with 3 legs looks like a kettle rack, so maybe something to put coals in and a cot on top ?

Or an Iranian submarine.

It is called a bed wagon. A pot of hot coals was placed in the trivet and the whole works was set in the middle of the bed with the covers over it. It is a large bed warmer. This one is about three foot long and some were larger.

That's a hell of big thing to be setting on the bed. Didn't those people have quilts ? Or were their wives that frigid ? :--o :--?

I seriously doubt that it was left in the bed, but put there to warm the bed and then removed when the "lord of the manor" retired for the night.
