Rifle deer season starts this Saturday, here in Oregon. I'll be headed into central Oregon for a five day hunt. Don't believe finding deer to be an issue, just need to be able to grow antlers on them.

Sometimes it is better to be lucky rather than good, but being good and lucky is even better yet.

It was a gloomy first day of the season today....

Hung out by this old red oak that was dropping lots of acorns.

It paid off by filling one of my doe tags.

Well, I got back. Story of my life; can't grow antlers on those in front of me. The biggest buck was seen an hour before shooting light as we headed to where we wanted to hunt. Was a new logging operation at the first place we were going, so we had to go to plan B. Ran into other hunters there, so on to plan C. Couldn't find any fresh sign in that area, so it was time to wing . Day two is when I started seeing does and fawns. Had a small fork horn at fifty yards, standing behind a Ponderosa Pine with his rear showing on one side and his head on the other looking right at me. By the time I got the gun to my shoulder, he took off like he had a fire under his rear. Next couple days were long walks, fresh air, and only one doe seen. Light rain three of the four days made for less than ideal conditions. Track soup sure is thin eating.

Wolf,

Tell your brother congratulations on a very nice buck.

REM

That"s some bad luck you had Rem on your hunt. That"s hunting though and track soup is not very filling. Better luck on your next outing. I still have no deer showing up here as well but with snow today things might turn around with the change in weather.

Tough situations Rem, maybe better luck next time.

Wolf, I know Wayne was a happy hunter and it wouldn't break his face to smile more. Good looking buck.
