My friend bought a different lake side property that 2 older cabins and a garage, all full of stuff. He got rid of most of it locally without needing my help but brought a van load of stuff he thought might actually be worth something. He found these. We're thinking some part of an old horse or ox harness/yoke. They are made out of steel (or iron) with the larger one having a brass "ball" on the end. The bigger of the two is about 2 feet long. I know some of you with knowledge of old rural land uses will know what these are!!

Harness hanes. Have used many of them to help stretch a wire gate to open and close.

Oxen harness parts was the first thing that came to mind.
I've never seen them used for opening gates. Interesting.

old horse hames bring lots of money at sales around here, especially if you have the collar that goes with them.

Thanks guys!! We thought they had something to do with old harnesses. There are some offered on ebay with various success of sales and prices. Too bad the smaller one doesn't have the brass end on it as well. There was a pair that went for $17.50 and cost $15 in shipping so people will drop a bit of coin for them. I might start off on the local craigslist and see if I get $15 for them. No triple fees to pay going that route. If they don't sell for over $10, then I'll try ebay.

One of my cousins who lived on a farm and I used to play with those hames and used them as our "guns". There were several of them up in an old barn on their place.

This is funny, because I just got a load of old horse hames and similar things a couple weeks ago. At least now I know how to spell them when I try to sell them :D
