Spotted skunk. Found a road killed one once, but never have caught one.

I've trapped a wagon load of skunks over the years but never a spotted one. I will have traps there come fall.

Pretty uncommon when compared to a striped skunk. I think the closest we have to them is a "civet cat" further west and south of me. Sort of a spotted skunk.

I've never seen a spotted skunk. Supposedly they wander as far north as PA.

Lots of people here call them civet cats too , which is actually a generic term used to describe several species of animals including the African/Asian civet cat which does look like a spotted cat. Not sure how the term got applied to the skunks. Sure would like to catch one and tan the hide.
Rick I would guess they probably are in Pennsylvania, but probably not in high numbers .

We do still have greys in NW Wisconsin, I see a few every year. Lots of reds also.

A few years back LONE GUNMAN sent me a whole spotted skunk via USPS and that is how my Postman and I became friends. He was a bit upset with the loud smelling package but found it sort of funny later on. I still have the hide hanging in my shop. I should have buried the musk glands when I cut them out but instead I threw them over my fence and the neighborhood did smell skunky for several day.

I believe he lives and works in Idaho now. Mostly riding his motorcycle and "hanging out".
