Hey folks, what is the definition of a highly valued fox color? Pale, or dark? I shot a fox while lying in wait for lamb eating coyotes last night. I thought it was a yote, as it was quite dark outside. It was a big male. Pretty pale. Slight shoulder rub, decent size hole to sew.

Is it worth skinning out? Is pale good, or dark cherry red, or???

Thanks.

Long as you shot it, you should try to make some use of it. Pale fox usually are worth less than the cherry reds.

Yeah, I want to make use of it, but if it is worth 5 bucks, I would prefer to rack it up as predator control and saving my chickens... ;)

I only wish I had been not using my 22 250. Fair bit of sewing on closer looking. Thanks for the answer re: color. We don't have a lot of foxes around, so am not familiar with color schemes!

Could always tan it for a hat or wallhangers or donate it to a local hunting/trapping/outdoor association.

As stated by others the dark reds and cherries bring more and especially if they are heavies. This year My average for pale reds at FHA was $40.00. You live in Canada so your fur should be a little more heavy then the South. The best time for a good coloured fox is up till Xmas after that they start to fade.
