Sounds like some gov checks they issue out west in SD for the rent on a fraction of acre of rangeland (because of all the heirs from a single NA owner back in the 1890s). Costs the gov more money to print the check than what the face value was...

Coon C.- I take it that was for the single dink that was in the private party deal a few weeks back. I had one too and it brought my ave. for the Jan. sale down from $14.10 to $12.49. Lesson learned!!

I don't feel so bad. My beaver sold at a private treaty sale which I didn't know about and I got a check for $9.45. :D

8) I got my NAFA check in the mail today....$1.75 for 2 coons but with profit sharing and a few deductions, I ended up with a check for $9.45!

I hope these few furs bring a bit more than that! This is all I had left after I sent a few on the first truck to NAFA.

Very impressive Swamp, a true master of catching fur. Wishing you good luck in your sale. Next week will tell the story when the Helsinki fur sale starts.

I got my NAFA check, three beaver for $16.00, and a coon for $3.00, minus commission plus profit sharing the check was...

wait for it

wait for it

$23.00. Not much, but makes the sport of trapping more enjoyable.

bronco- sorry to hear about the low returns. I guess the only thing is do is learn from the experience (just like I won't send any coon less than XL up to auction). With your 3 yotes, what was a main difference in them? Sure $15 is still low but its better than $6 & $1. So maybe next time only send the ones that are similar to the $15 and keep the rest for doing someone on your own. Did you save the yote skulls? If the skulls themselves are busted up from lead poisoning at least boil them off for the teeth. Squeeze any money out of a critter than you can.

As for the coon, I don't know what to say...

I'm kind of curious to see what the Fur Market Reports in the various trapping publications will say about this.

They may take the high road and say...The auctions saw larger clearances of their inventory.

Or the low road...Furs were being sold but at rock bottom prices just to clear out the warehouse.

Ol' Festus showed me some of his fur while I was down by his house on Saturday. People like him makes me not want to dump my sack at the NAFA pickup! :? He and his wife have done a great job of putting up fur, last year was their first time to put up fur.

some mighty fine looking fur. The problem is what to do with it. This next Nafa sale will determine up or down. Am in limbo for my next batch of fur to send.

Not knocking NAFA but my nephew did very well at the FHA sale and is prepping more beavers to send. He did better on plews there then we have in the last 20 years selling a few at auction and majority to country buyers. Im not sure how he did overall with everything yet but might be a consideration for beaver at least if NAFA looks to be low on them too Wolf? I dont want anyone to go for it on my accord just throwin ideas out and brainstorming. I know hes trying to talk me out of my reserve castor too lol.

BWM, someone must have a large order for beaver, I received a mailout from my nearest fur buyer and his flyer states,"we need beaver from TX-LA-AR-TN-OK-MS". He is buying for Groenwald Fur and they want the pelts GREEN.
