I have only caught a half a dozen beaver and I did not use any lure for them. I just set travel routes and caught them. I am now trapping a river where I need to make some castor mound sets and am wondering what everyones favorite lure is.

Jase was right about the oil from the beaver. Best lure you could use and it's free. Castor works just as well. I have right now 3 scent sets out on one river using oil from the sacks. Any beaver traveling down the river can't resist to investigate.

I like cdr's choice beaver lure. He makes limited amounts each season and is an awesome beaver lure, it will also catch canines and coon. He goes by cdr on american trap talk.

Caven's "Timber" and "Sweetwater Flattail" work exceptionally well if you are still going to buy some!

Castor is good. If they wise up to it i like Carmans and Dobbins. Had a few bottles of mountain man beaver lure years ago but dunno where or who made it? It worked good. Had a sweeter scent and i suspect some kind of nut oil? Peeled green twigs alone have some draw too.
