First catch of the season is a nice big boar. I only have a few bucket sets and 3 trail sets out. This weekend I will get all my snares out. My friend Bill is trapping this season with me. He is new to trapping and just moved here from Florida so its a rookie teaching a rookie.

Thanks, I had one other 220 bucket set sprung without a catch. I guess it was a coon reach in or a weasel. The coon is 40lbs.

Thats supposed to be trail sets.
My little girl won't let me out of the house without her. She loves checking traps with her Dad. I took her grouse hunting and she walked with me, the dog, and a buddy for miles without complaint. Oh and you can't let her here the old Farmall start up or she cries until you give her a ride on it. I couldn't trade anything for her.

Got coon #2 today, a small boar. Bill and I got some new sets out along the river bank on his property. It was loaded with coon, muskrat, beaver, and mink sign. I put a few 110s in the rat holes in the bank, one bucket set, and several pocket sets along the bank and a pool near the bank. I am going back tomorrow to put some snares in the bank were I think the beaver is living. Can't wait to check in the morning.

Mnhntr, congratulations man. What part of this great state are you trapping? I don't see much corn up here in Itasca County. 40 pounds - good grief Gerty! I would like to PM you with a question about your bucket sets - Ok?

Pierre

Jase this area has a lot of cats. I have an 80 acre piece and I caught my first cat two seasons ago (36lb tom) 150yds from the back door. Got another last year and could have had more if I knew more about trapping. I am still learning myself so I hope to keep improving. I am getting better with snares but still not too god with foot holds. We got 20 cubby box sets to put out this year for fisher and cat. Thats my Buddy Bill holding the coon. I was the guy in the pic of the first coon with my daughter.

I been mistaken for worse HAHA. That area was logged for the poplar and jack pine and they left a bunch of slash piles. The cats seem to hunt those pile every year so I didn't burn them off like I was going to. The neigbor down the road said I could trap his place because they have been hearing cats screaming in the woods.

You guys are very funny....how large are the coons Y'all (the Canukes) catch?!? :? Most of you know I deal with coons that don't have the weight problems as do the over eaters in a lot of areas. My mind is about to twist off trying to wrap around these 40 pounders.... A large coyote here only gets into that range. :--o
