Hey guys I recently joined the Minnesota Trappers Association. What exactly are the benefits do doing this? Can they help you find places to trap?

no....its more about trappers getting together and operating constitutionally to protect our rights to pursue that which we love. :|
you can certainly meet trappers through the mta that will show you the ropes whether by word or deed. the conventions have great demos put on by some of the states best trappers, which helps immensely. but if you are thinking like how guides put you on fishing spots or if they tell you what areas are hot for bobcats or marten, etc ....nope!

most trappers are pretty closed lip about where they set their steel. (they are alot like experienced steelhead fishermen. who wants more ppl gumming up your spots on opener? personally, thats part of the allure of the sport for me. 8)) they almost become wary like the critters themselves, trusting no one and nothing when they're running their line.

the mta does publish a magazine that, from time to time, will have an article on the authors trapping experience in a particular wilderness area and that article will contain some tips. additionally to their favor, alot of entities deserve credit for fighting the lynx legal battle to allow trapping to continue in the state where nothing is allowed (thanks for that line Joe!). the mta, as i understand it, is one of those entities. if we're at all alike, you'll spend money on alot of dumb things in your life, but the mta will never be one of those things. :D

Al I actually contacted my district president and he hooked me up with a trapper in my area who is an awesome guy. He has showed me lots of stuff from skinning and fur care, to letting me tag along on his trap line. He even came up to an area I trap and helped me pick out some good spots to set!
