The massacre of Fannin and his troops at Goliad was 177 years ago today. My kids who are in their mid twenties never heard of it at school. I bored them as teenagers with Texas history. My son called. People at work talking about the Alamo, Goliad etc. "Give me a quick overview." I said "I gave you the complete lesson. Look it up."

I tire of our local newspaper, they have no problem covering Black History Month with an article or more every day about the struggles of the blacks, even making one edition a BHM paper. But they find difficulty in even mentioning anything about TEXAS HISTORY MONTH!

eastex, you may want to get your son to read Lone Star Nation, The Epic Story of the Battle for Texas Independence by H.W.Brands. I took Texas History in school but this book made a lot more sense to me.

My daughters senior year I asked one of her teachers what happened to US history and Texas history. She said they were "dieing subjects" because they are considered racist. I hear you Swamp and Jase. I miss starting the day with a newspaper and a cup of coffee. If there is a good paper in this state I cant find it. Sure miss the Houston Post. They quit rather than sell out to hearst.

Thanks Swamp. I had Lone star Nation at one time. He doesnt have time to read. Easier to use the old mans brain{whats left of it} as a data bank.
