Ended my 3 night fur drought last night. Caught 4 beaver and 1 coon. It feels good to skin again :D

Also had some good news regarding some concert tickets i have been waiting forever to go on sale. Finally they are going on sale tomorrow. Not trapping related but it sure made a great day even better :D

I sure hope so. I have picked up 3 more beaver and 1 coon the last to nights. I have been having a lot of luck setting snares in the shallow water in swamps nad smearing castor on the tree. The beaver just swim around and go right in them. Of the last 7 i have caught 5 have been this way. Had a few of my drowning rigs i have set at another location get flooded last night so i didnt get to check the today. I doubt i caught anything though. I have been trapping that creek for over a week and only caught 1 rat :? Also i am expecting a freeze up that may set me back a day or 2

Got another beaver and 2 coons today. One coon was a big 16 lb. boar and the other was a small boar. Only about 3 lbs. I think i have seen some fox squirrels bigger  lol. I wanted to let the little guy go but he had been caught by both front paws in a duke dp and 1 was broken and he had jacked up his teeth pretty bad chewin on the trap. I couldnt let him go like that. At least it got me to 20 coons for the season and he was a good eating-size coon. One for the crockpot

Had a snow day today. School was closed. I had only had 1 beaver. Had to pull my traps from the swamp i have caught all the beaver this week to avoid a freeze up tonight. The others at a creek are still about 2 foot under water but no catches. I'm going to pull them tomorrow too and move to another area. I set a few snares in the woods on our farm for squirrels just for kicks lol  Hopefully the weather wont be to bad so i can make the most of the 3-day weekend

Have an interesting story to tell about today. This past Thursday i had a snare i had set in a coon trail disappear. I realized i forgot to close the quick link connecting it to my earth anchor  Today i went back to the area to reset some traps the flood covered with sand and gravel and looked up in a hackberry tree and saw a good sized sow coon hanging there, dead. It was about 25 ft. up. We had to climb the tree to get it down. The weather has been very cold and the fur was still good. Talk about luck :D

I caught my 5th otter of the season and it was a nice one. My biggest so far. It was a 24 lb. male. I also caught my first grinner in a snare :D I have never been so happy to catch a grinner. I have wanted to snare one for a long time. I just wanted to snare as many species as i could so i can't say i will be this happy if i snare them in the future.

I also got some goodies in the mail today. A bunch of new snare, a bottle of fish oil, some beaver lure, piledriver mink lure, and my favorite prize, an edge electronic lure/predator caller. Maybe this will help me catch some yotes, fox, or maybe even a bobcat.

Lot of misc. catches in the last week or so. A few coon & beaver, quite a few grinners (some released and some dispatched), a skunk, a squirrel in a snare, and i let another skunk i caught in a cage and a groundhog go. Season is winding on down now.

Interesting day today. Caught 1 beaver in a snare, 2 grinners in dps (released 1, it was almost solid black) a muskrat in a 330( way more trap than rat lol) and a big ole white domestic goose in one of my beaver snares. It ruined my best set and my snare but i released it unharmed lol. I think i will call that a feather grinner

I have really racked up the coon numbers in the last few weeks. also passed my goal of 50 beaver. just 2 more nights. i have plans to do some yote trappin startin on thursday and the game wardens asked me to do some post season beaver trapping so they can drain a flooded duck field so just because the main trappin season ends doesnt mean the trapping ends :D

WTG! I thought about putting out a few beaver sets myself. My luck I would get an otter so I will call in quits till next year.

Well season is officially over. I managed to catch 42 coons, 53 beaver, 12 grinners (dispatched and skinned), 6 muskrat, 5 otter, 1 squirrel, and 1 striped skunk. I also released 28 grinner, a skunk, and a groundhog. It was a preety good season. If i could just catch a couple yotes i will call it quits until next season.
