With spring turkey season starting nexy weekend and the youth hunts going on now, I figured I would start a thread for us TN turkey hunters to share stories and pics of our hunts.

This was my last year to hunt the youth hunt. I managed to kill a pretty nice bird today. He weighed 21 lbs., had a 11 inch beard, and 1 1/4 inch spurs. I will post pics when I can. Good luck to all y'all in your hunts.

My girlfriend also killed her first turkey yesterday. It was a jake with a 5 inch beard and weighed 13 lbs. I was so proud of her. I wish I could have been there to see her shoot it though. Im going to do the fan, feet, and skull for her.

I am not much of a turkey hunter (almost not at all) but with these two choices, which should I have tried for?

im not a great turkey hunter but i usually manage 1 a year. im hoping to get this years turkey sat. with everyone else. all the juveniles in my family i take had just turned 16 or way to young this year. i did buy me a new camo outfit from gander mt. last weekend. i love the turkey camo! i got mothwing pants & shirt. this stuff is real thin i hope to not sweat so badly in it. i cant find it on the gander mtn. website.

Hey yall, glad to hear yall doing some good. The shop has been pretty busy with many waiting till the last min to get their guns ready to go, and a couple of classics came in to be preped for turkey season. One was a Mod 31 Remington, the other was a Mod 12, and am sure you all know that that Mod 12 is, but have you seen a 31 before?

One bit of advice, lol, one guy came by, and got me out of bed, seems he had to take his down, then could not get it back together, and his some was telling him I told you not to mess with it........... It was funny, but it was the young mans gun, so I didn't mind getting it going for him....... I think his daddy paid for his mistake well before he got here.

walked two miles this morning just to miss one at ten yards. Would of been my biggest. Was my first missed turkey

Sorry to hear that easttntrapper. Good luck later in the season. My dad got a pretty nice bird yesterday. A 23 lb. tom with a 9 inch beard and 1 inch spurs.

i had 5 or 6 gobbling when i set out decoys sat. morning. they were up in the woods about 60 yds. from the field i was in. i sat there for 2 hours & they never did come to me. lol next time im going in after them. when they fly down i will get 1 maybe. lol my cousin on the other side of the woods saw a hen up close & a tom way off. but no kills for us. we then spent the rest of the weekend bowfishing. lol we shot over 350lbs. of fish. im the 1 on the right, on the left is my cousin, & middle is my dad.

Nice bunch of fish crow commander. I wish i had some decent kuck when i go bowfishing lol

yesterday i went turkey hunting with no decoys or calls in the same spot as last sat. about 6:30 i had 2 hens fly off the roost & land beside me. then 6 more hens came out & last but not least a tom came out strutting from the woods. i think he was about 50 yds. the hens were alot closer & i had no face mask or gloves. lol i did have the 10 gauge though so i shot & missed. i was nervous & couldnt take it no more. lol it was the 1st encounter by myself with turkeys that close. after that i left & went bowfishing. i got 3 more gar & missed lots more. lol prolly seen 30 gar, 1 buffalo, 2 bass, few ducks, & lotsa turtles. my dad & sister went & we all got extreme sunburns. lol oh & last weekend & this time we were in my little boat. i havent had no luck from the bridge.

whistlepig- if yall ever go to springville, tn i can meet yall & take u to the backwaters i bowfish at. the gar have been spawning for a couple weeks now. i just troll around the bushes & spot them. i havent ever been at night there but we think they would b all over. its actually a popular duck hunting place called west sandy wma i think. its not big sandy wma thats on down several miles. i call it elkhorn bottom.

i finally got 1. a little jake but he will work my cousin called him in & i rolled him with the 10 gauge at 10 yds. then we snuck up on 6 more sets, all hens though. & some beavers at a pond. he shot 1 but we couldnt retrieve it. a rough weather day but great for hunting.

thanks. i tried again last wed. in the rain with my cousin. apparently turkeys like to b out in the rain. lol we found 3 solos. 1st 1 was a hen, 2nd was to far to tell & gone when we got closer, 3rd was a jake & we got close but when my cousin shot the shell it was a dud & the next shell rolled him but he got up & flew away. lol i looked all over & found 1 feather. we seen 6 or 7 box turtles & i fell in a creek that i tried to jump so it was a good time. lol then sat. morning i went & had a hen come in real close but no beard & later on another hen popped out in the field 10' from me but we scared the daylights out of each other. i never heard it. lol
