I was wondering if anyone could offer some tips on trapping raccoons in freezing weather. I started trapping this year after the rut wore off which in turn the weathers become pretty cold. As it freezes every night I have a hunch my bait is freezing and not giving off as much odor? I use 220's with a bucket set-up. So far I've only caught one coon and six grinners. I haven't had much luck with the coons and I thought I've had some prime set ups. I keep wondering if luck just isnt on my side or if there is something I can do to increase my chances with the weather change?? Any input would be great! thanks

Keep the buckets in place and wait for the weather to warm a little and they should run. Try some calcium chloride or salt on your bait to keep it from freezing solid. Hopefully it doesnt snow too much so we can find our buckets!

here is a little trick i learned from a guy for using coon cuffs after the weather got cold

take a coon cuff and a can that the coon cuff will just fit in then pound your stake in so that the washer on the stake is even with the top of the trap this holds it in place tell the coon gets caught this seams to work perty good for me
