I would like to know how you would make your sets since a dirt hole is out of the question now. as the ground is frozen and covered with snow. I know how I make them but that dosen't mean that its right . just looking for advice ,tricks, and HELP.

I'm wondering this myself. I was speculating that you would still get a hole into the dirt as to get some brown dirt color spread over the snow to attract, then just bed the trap in the snow in front of it. I've never seen pictures of a "dirt hole snow set", so I'm grasping at straws here, too.

Please help!

I was out this am and observed the movement of three seperate fox and two coyote the coyote didn't walk around was like they were on a mission and they passed this spot two nights in a row. the fox on the other hand circled the lake and passed a spot near a spring I didn't have steaks for them so no set was made but I could see where a mink did dig around in it so I set a trap there maby he will come back I don't feel real confident about this. I did set one for fox by a tree that was passed yesterday but not today I will set more out later at the locations I saw may add bait . I think I will bring the ice auger and make two holes and run the wire through for a stake as its mostly ice . make a flat set in the snow and use reads as the backing hope it works.

Why can't you make a dirthole? Move the snow in a 4-5" diameter area with a snow shovel. Chop your trapbed with an axe, get a solid steel rod to drive-in to make a dirthole (or make a flatset, you don't need a dirthole).

Shovel (or sweep) the path you walked into the set to remove footprints for 10-15'. If you're driving a truck or ATV to your sets, set right beside the tiretracks as K9 will follow them rather walking in the deeper snow.

Are you using any "Long Distance" (skunky) lures?
