That's part of it, as well as rust prevention, and wax will also act as a lubricant & "speed-up" a trap.

Dirtholes unless you're in a heavily trapped/hunted area with alot of smart coyotes. They may be "wise" to a dirthole, so flatsets & urineposts are also good sets.

Waxing traps has more than one purpose.First and most important it keeps your traps from rusting.I am sure you want your equipment in good shape not a pile of rust.
Second rust has a smell all its own and some critters will pick up on that odor and avoid you trap or worse yet dig them up(and laugh at you while the walk away)
Third it helps to speed up your trap, some critters can feel you pan creep or sense the unpacked dirt under their foot around the pan area.so we want to have a fast trap to help catch these smart guys.
A clean, odor free waxed trap will keep your target animals nose on your lure not the trap.

The most productive way to cath yotes is to put their foot in the trap(sorry just a little humor)
