I finally caught my first red fox last night. :D Actually beside the neighbors dog, the first k-nine of any sort in a trap, it's my second year. I don't have a digital camera to show any pictures but he sure looks good.

My question is how should I remake the set (it was a dirt hole)? Should I just reset the trap the fox was in or set a new one? In the same spot, or move over a little? Add more lure/ urine or what? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I would reset the trap you have there, same hole. Then go out to the edge of the catch circle and set a flat set.

Thanks, I'll try that. I pulled everything when I got him so nothing there would have my sent. I have to reset the traps after work as I don't have time in the morning or my stuff. With my luck, the second dumbest fox will come by today with no trap there.

You can refresh the set once you've remade it with just a light squirt of bobcat urine. Foxes love cat urine.

I don't have any bobcat urine because we don't have bobcats in SW Ohio, so I didn't get any. I only have fox urine and the set smells strong enough of that as it is now. I could smell it 10-15' away.

Just another "new guy" question...
I have never been walking through the woods and actuall smelled an animals urine. Even when there is snow on the ground and I can see it, I never can smell it. I take that back. I know if there is a deer around, because I DO smell that, but as far as other animals go, never smeeled them. If you can smell it from 10-15 feet away, isn't that a little strong??
Like I said...new guy question :?

I didn't put that much scent down. It smelled that way after the fox was caught. It actually smelled a little bit like a mild skunk odor. Is that normal?

I always use the same trap at a remake,I generally make a dirthole/food oppurtonity type set.
I've caught as many as 7 Coyotes in the same set.
I do pay attention to the wind direction and have the attractor upwind from the trap, I like his nose to lead him right over the trap.
The nice thing about remakes is blending is a breeze and the catch circle is a huge attraction.
With that being said a fresh set outside the catch circle and slighty upwing isn't a bad Idea either.
But most of my locations get 3-5 sets anyway.....B.....
