I read this, "dip them and lay them in the grass. They will rust when exposed to the air. Vinegar is a mild acid and will help remove excess rust. If you do this dip them in a mixture of baking soda and water to neutralize the acid, then rinse off with water and let them air dry."

So after you put them in the vinegar and water and get a coating of rust you should place them in baking soda and water to neutralize? then rinse?

thanks
