I am planning on making some disposable stakes for this trapping season. How long do I need the cable to be. I live in Iowa and the soil varies from pretty loose crop field dirt, to some clay. I plan on using the stakes for coyote and bobcat sets. I have looked on trapping supply sites and the length varies for the stakes varies from 15" - 30".

The looser the soil the longer the stake. I'm not sure how long you want them though. Mobowdoctor made up a real nice video on making them and put it on here if you can find it.

I watched the video and that is how I plan to make the stakes. The video however doesn't specify how long the stake needs to be. Maybe I missed this piece of info, but I think I didn't.

For loose soil I go with 24" and for hard ground I go 16". I use Berkshire heavy duty and never had a problem.
