Okay, so here in NY, in order to use body grips on land that are baited, we have to have it in a cubby of some sort. One option is a box with an opening no higher than 6 inches and the trap must sit back in the box a minimum of 4 inches. The other option is to have a cubby where the opening can be 10 inches, but the trap has to sit 18 inches back in. My questions are:
1) Which box should I build for coons?
2) Which box should I build for fisher?
3) How much farther back should I make the box to fit in the bait? Is 6 more inches enough?
Any other suggestions would be great too.

I would want my bait at least 10 inches from the trap so the critter is committed to getting hishead through the conibear to get caught.
As far as for coon vs fischer I don't know but I'd go with the 10 inch opening box. You will probably get more response from them. Just make sure you camoflage them with brush so they look more natural.

Thanks. I wouldn't have thought to put it that far back. Thought 6 inches would be enough, but then thought about a 'coon trying to reach back in keeping it's head out of the trap and 10 definitely sounds better. :D
