Sunday while checking beaver sets I noticed scat from a yote on the ice. No other sign, just scat. I know they travel frozen waterways in the winter, but there was nothing in the vicinity to make a set at. So I thought, why not make a set ontop the ice? But what kind? How would I anchor it? Then I got an idea. I took 2 pieces of 10 ga. wire and cut them about 26 " long. Ran 1 end thru the last swivel and brought the ends together and began to twist them. Once I had the wire twisted it was as stout as a cable, then I found a beaver chew about 2" diameter and roughly 28" long and wrapped the wire around it, cut a hole thru the ice and layed the stick so it was laying parrellel under the ice. Ok, solved that problem, but now what? I looked around and saw a clump of marsh grass, went and cut it off with my spud, wired it tighter together, cut another hole in the ice and stuffed the grass down into the hole. Now I had my scent post. How to bed the trap? I went and got more marsh grass, chopped it up, layed some on the ice, set the trap, chopped up more grass, layed wax paper down for the trap to set on and cover the trap and more grass over the wax paper. I applied a heavy dose of red fox urine and a good dose of gland lure to the marsh grass and walked away. Nothing on check Monday. Today I had a coyote sitting there waiting for me. It had worked.! Now I have a set I'm gonna call STEELWALKER'S ICE SET. LOL.

Congrats on the 'yote! Now that's what you call being innovative. Did you take a picture of the set?
