I usually boil my traps in water with some heavy duty house hold cleaner to remove dirt and excess rust. Them I wash off any remaining soap. I let them dry and then dye and wax them.

Throw the lot of them in a 5 gal. bucket. Go to grocery store and buy 3 gallons of white or cider vinegat. Pour over the traps. Let sit 3/4 days. Wire brush or power wash rust off. Good to go .
