I always find sign to set on when looking near the following places or objects:
fence rows, corners where fields meet or where wods meet fileds, logging roads, farm roads, river/creek bottoms, rock lines, rock piles, abandened dwellings /sheds/barns, marshes, soybean fields, corn fields, hay fields, old apple groves, lone apple trees on field edges, hill tops, ravines, old beaver ponds, rr tracks, culverts.
just some places to look for sign. set accordingly to your needs.
