hey, i am new to trapping and i was wondering how exactly body grip traps work. Can you use them the same way you use foot hold traps? For instance could I hang a bait over a body grip trap as I would a foothold trap. How exactly are they set off? Some pictures of sets would be nice. Thank you.

Matt,
welcome. First thing I would do is to check your states use of bodygrips on land. many states don't allow it at all, and those which do enforce strict guide lines which must be followed. In direct answer to your question, the answer is yes, you can suspend a bait over/beyond the bodygrip and catch critters. Pine marten would be a good example of such a species. Most trappers however place the bait/lure beyond the bodygrip so that the target animal must pass thru the waiting trap thereby catching it as it passes thru. The conni style trap fires when ther target animal passes thru the trap and some portion of its body brushes against the triggers. Tis motion then knocks the triggers out of the dog which in turn allows the jaws to snap shut killing or holding the animal until it retires. Hope this helps. I would also check to see if your state requires a trappers education corse. They are full of valuable information.

Here is a pretty good diagram that shows the basic construction of body grippers--
